PROXXI
55 Water St. Suite 503, Vancouver, BC, V6B 1A1, Canada
Overview
Proxxi produces an always-on sensor bracelet that alerts mechanics and electricians when they approach high-voltage electricity and pairs with an app for silencing warnings and tracking risky interactions. The app records potentially harmful interactions wirelessly so management can pinpoint trouble spots before incidents occur. The Vancouver-based company sold out of its initial commercial evaluation units and reports orders for thousands of units from GE, Con Edison, Exelon, Baker Hughes, Schneider Electric and ABB. Proxxi was founded by Richard Sim and Campbell Macdonald after British Columbia Hydro tasked Sim to research a protective product and Macdonald built the prototype. The company has raised $700,000 in angel funding and is pushing the device toward all-day wear rather than occasional use. Founders say the opportunity extends beyond utilities into manufacturing, oil and gas, and construction and call it a “$40 billion problem,” emphasizing prevention of human error and catastrophic injuries.
