Psykosoft’s core product, Psykopaint, is a web-based photo-editing app that converts user photos into painted works in the styles of artists like Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh. The site uses a digital-goods monetization model (previously subscription-based) where users earn or purchase points to access features. Psykopaint draws substantial usage: the app attracts over one million visitors per month, has been used by about 13 million people overall, and sees roughly 2,500 paintings uploaded to its gallery each day, with user rates reportedly doubling every few weeks. The team has expanded its product lineup with Psykonect and Psykogif and plans to build out iPad and Windows 8 apps, develop new brushes (including a “remix brush”), add community features like painting over others’ work, and create a marketplace for top painters to sell work. Management intends to hire talent globally and run the company in a decentralized fashion. The company participated in Seedcamp and joined TechStars Boston earlier in the year.
