Publons is a platform for post-publication peer review that aims to make reviewers "first-class academic citizens" by letting them publish critiques and build portfolios of reviews. The site assigns DOIs to its best reviews so reviewers can cite them on CVs, and it facilitates discussion around published papers. Publons also helps journals find quality reviewers and intends to monetize by offering value-added services to academic publishers. The company says it hopes to have 20 major international journals signed up within a year. Publons reports having about 11,000 authors, roughly 3,000 publications in its database, and some 300 active contributors primarily in the U.S., Europe and China. The company participated in the Lightning Lab accelerator and is based in Wellington, New Zealand.
