Overview
PulmoBioMed is a Newcastle Upon Tyne–based company that provides breath sampling technology offering a non-invasive way to obtain uncontaminated deep lung fluid samples. Its hand-held PBM-HALE device captures exhaled breath, separates large mouth-origin aerosol droplets from fine deep-lung droplets, and collects samples in about two minutes. Clinical studies showed it provided uncontaminated deep lung samples and helped detect and quantify lung infections and inflammation in 100% of symptomatic cases. The company was founded during the pandemic to address slow diagnosis of respiratory diseases and is led by CEO and Founder Sterghios Moschos. PulmoBioMed intends to use new funding to develop a manufacturing process to scale production, register the product in the US, and relocate from the university to new city-centre premises. It also secured a £700K Innovate UK grant and plans to create seven new jobs in the year ahead.
