The company is also backed by General Catalyst Partners, Azure Capital Partners, Freycinet Investments, Relay Ventures and angels. PumpUp is a mobile social fitness app that combines photo sharing, custom exercise plans, coaching, activity tracking (reps, calories, time) and healthy recipe sharing to create a supportive community. The product’s photo-focused approach is core to engagement; the company says members who share photos are more than five times likelier to stay on track. PumpUp reports over 1.7 million users and that more than 90% of its community is female. The team is hiring in Canada and the U.S., and internationalization/localization (Spanish, Arabic, French) and local geography features are in the product pipeline. Financially, the company recently closed a $2.4M seed financing and had prior financings including an undisclosed seed and a $200,000 angel round in September 2013. The new capital will be used to expand the community, team and product.
