Pundi Pundi is a Hong Kong-registered startup bringing Alipay-style QR-code payments to Indonesia. Its app enables scan-to-pay transactions and provides a micro-credit wallet that lets users hold balances under $40 usable at more than 600 merchants, including convenience stores, noodle sellers and hawker centers. Users can top up or repay credit via bank transfer, ATM or over-the-counter at stores, and the company has recently added mobile top-up support. The startup initially targets urban workers in central Jakarta to build habitual usage around lunches and office-hour spending. Pundi Pundi reports over 100,000 registered users and about 20,000 daily active users; roughly 50% of users lack credit cards and about 30% lack bank accounts. It plans to add bill-payment options (electricity and household bills) and to expand to Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand while aiming to reach 300,000 users to build credit and behavioral data.
