Its activities span digital health and therapeutics, with portfolio examples including Akili Interactive Labs (electronic medicine for cognitive disorders), Vedanta Biosciences (microbiome therapies), Gelesis (an encapsulated device for weight loss and glycemic control), Entrega (an oral smart pill for delivering injectable drugs) and Tal Medical (electrical-circuit therapies for depression). PureTech closed a $55m growth-stage investment from Invesco Perpetual and intends to use the funds to advance its existing pipeline and new healthcare-related products and technologies. In conjunction with the funding round the company appointed three new Senior Partners—Dr. H. Robert Horvitz, Joi Ito and Dr. Raju Kucherlapati—joining existing leadership including Dr. Langer, Dr. Ben Shapiro, Dr. John LaMattina and CEO Daphne Zohar. The company concentrates on a few major initiative areas at a time, moving promising academic research toward commercialization.
