Q*Bird develops and sells the Falqon® Series, the world’s only commercial Measurement-Device-Independent Quantum Key Distribution (MDI-QKD) system, delivering detector-immune, scalable quantum-secure networking for telecom, port, government, defence and data-centre operators. The company’s solutions have already been deployed in the Port of Rotterdam, Spain’s Madrid metropolitan network, Eurofiber’s Dutch data-centres and a 132 km cross-border link between Belgium and Luxembourg. Through its newly launched NEXUS project, Q*Bird will shrink hardware size, add next-generation optical modules, and build a multi-operator orchestration layer that enables continent-scale quantum networks. To finance this scale-up, it has obtained €2.5 million in grant funding and €5 million in equity from the European Innovation Council’s EIC Accelerator programme. The blended finance will be used to expand European production capacity, reduce QKD costs and accelerate industrial-grade roll-out. Q*Bird positions its MDI-QKD architecture as the foundation for a future federated quantum internet, extending beyond secure links to network controllers and quantum-ready interconnects. Although no revenue or user metrics were disclosed, the company emphasises rapid market growth and job creation as key outcomes of the funding.
