Q Factor has developed a software-only dynamic packet-recovery system (DRP/DPR) intended to improve delivery and viewing of media-rich content on wireless devices. The technology locates and replaces lost packets without retransmission, maintaining high transmission rates and minimizing network congestion. DRP/DPR is deployed via an SDK and the company is targeting developers of media-heavy apps; cited use cases include media players, VPNs, cloud backup and multiplayer gaming. Q Factor says the system eliminates waits when streaming or downloading large files and helps improve network throughput and user experience. The company was founded in early 2012 and operated in stealth from Waltham, MA until this announcement. It closed a $6.5 million Series A and plans to make the software commercially available in 2014.
