QGel is a Lausanne, Switzerland–based biomaterials company co-founded in 2009 by Matthias Lütolf and Colin Sanctuary. It develops and commercializes synthetic gels that enable 3D in vitro growth of miniature human organs (organoids) and tumors (tumoroids). The company’s technology lets scientists test new drugs on patient tissues and supports disease models across many cancer types, including brain, breast, colon, kidney, lung, ovarian, pancreas, placenta, prostate and skin. QGel currently commercializes these 3D in vitro disease models for multiple cancer indications. In December 2016 the company closed a $12m financing round. It plans to use the proceeds to accelerate global expansion and broaden its existing product line.
