Qnetic is a Newark, NY–based engineering company building solid-state mechanical batteries—flywheel systems designed for long-duration energy storage. Its flagship Q500 unit delivers a 30-year operating life with no capacity degradation, supports unlimited daily charge-discharge cycles, performs reliably in extreme temperatures, and eliminates thermal-runaway risk. According to the company, these attributes can cut the levelized cost of storage to roughly half that of lithium-ion alternatives. With the latest capital, Qnetic plans to outfit its California manufacturing center for low-volume production, launch multiple utility and commercial pilot projects in the U.S. and abroad, and broaden field testing with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the National Lab of the Rockies over the next 18–24 months. Over the past 12 months the company has secured $7.1 million in funding, including a $2.1 million equity-crowdfunding round completed last year and the newly announced $5 million raise.
