Overview
Quantum Space is an early-stage space infrastructure company developing and building spacecraft that enable life extension, critical on-demand maneuvering, and data services. The company focuses on mobility, logistics, and space domain awareness to serve commercial, national security, and civil markets. Led by CEO Kerry Wisnosky and founded by Dr. Kam Ghaffarian, Quantum aims to deliver spacecraft with the 'Freedom to Maneuver' across orbits. Sporos Capital Partners, through an affiliate, has invested in Quantum; the company says the investment bolsters its balance sheet and positions it to meet growing demand for satellite life-extension services. Management and investors intend the capital and partnership with Sporos to accelerate innovation and ensure sustained access and mobility for the evolving space economy. Quantum describes its mission as advancing superior, sustainable space operations through strategic innovation in mobility, logistics, and space domain awareness. Quantum Space is building a fleet of platforms, called Scouts, to operate in cislunar space and provide communications, situational awareness, and other services. Its core product is QuantumNet, a constellation of Scout vehicles, and the company is also developing an in-space tug called Ranger to deliver Scouts to final orbits. The first Scout mission, QS-1, is slated to launch in October 2024 as a rideshare; Blue Canyon Technologies is providing the spacecraft bus and the mission will carry a situational awareness payload from GEOST plus additional customers' payloads. Quantum Space plans to deploy more than 40 Scout vehicles in cislunar space by 2032. Founded in 2021 by Kam Ghaffarian and led by former NASA acting administrator Steve Jurczyk, the company is positioning to support government and commercial needs tied to lunar activity. It recently secured funding to advance its hardware, operations, and customer-facing software.
