Overview
Qubit builds Visitor Cloud, a real-time big-data analytics and personalization platform that provides customer segmentation and execution tools to marketers. The service uses machine learning to analyze a company’s own traffic (first-party data) to surface customer patterns and recommend marketing actions, and it integrates with visualization tools such as Tableau. Qubit emphasizes privacy by focusing on first-party data and not cross-referencing traffic across companies. The company says it serves about 300 customers, processes roughly 2.5 billion online customer interactions daily, and that half its business now comes from non-retail verticals such as travel, finance and e-gaming. Qubit has grown over 100% year-on-year, is on track to reach a $100 million annual run rate soon, and expects to be cash-flow break-even within 18 months. It plans to use new funding to expand into more verticals beyond e-commerce, add features to Visitor Cloud, and hire engineers to build out a Silicon Valley presence. Qubit’s flagship product, Visitor Cloud, builds detailed profiles for each visitor and applies data-driven personalizations and A/B tests to optimize ecommerce sales. The platform analyzes visitor interactions to identify buying patterns and deliver tailored experiences, and the company says it is built on advances in the Hadoop ecosystem and JavaScript. Qubit positions its offering as an integrated optimization platform versus point solutions and cites Adobe’s Marketing Cloud as a distant comparator. The company plans to use new funding for continued R&D—including predictive data—and to push aggressively into the U.S., while scaling sales, professional services and marketing teams in the U.S. and Europe. Qubit reports more than 150 enterprise customers in the U.K. and the U.S., including Hilton Hotels, Jimmy Choo, Staples, Farfetch, Topshop and Uniqlo. It reported 260% year-on-year growth in sales in the six months to June 2014. Qubit was founded in 2010 by a group of ex-Googlers. QuBit builds analytics and tag-management products to help e-commerce sites personalize customer experiences, notably its cloud-based OpenTag and a newly launched larger SaaS analytics platform. The company was founded in 2010 by four ex‑Googlers and is based in London. OpenTag lets sites manage tags from multiple analytics, marketing and ad services from a single interface; over 1,200 enterprises use OpenTag. This year QuBit reports revenues grew by 300% and it added 1,000 customers to its analytics platform, which processes data from tens of millions of visitors every month. Notable customers include the Arcadia Group, John Lewis, the BBC and Staples. QuBit plans to use the funding to develop OpenTag and its SaaS analytics product further, expand into the U.S. and the rest of Europe, and develop additional mobile web services. QuBit launched OpenTag, a free open-source Tag Management system that lets sites install a single tag and manage all other tags via a QuBit dashboard (free for sites with under one million page views). OpenTag uses a high-performance Container Tag and a global CDN to reduce sequential scripts, lower latency, and speed tag deployment. The product is positioned to remove tag management from core development cycles and free developer resources. QuBit intends to use the open-source tag ecosystem as a platform to roll out additional data-driven website optimization and conversion products. The company came out of stealth led by four ex-Google employees and is already working with customers including AOL, Expedia, Not on the High Street, Blackberry and TalkTalk. QuBit is backed with seed funding and founder capital, enabling initial product rollout and customer engagements.
