Overview

Quickwit is an open-source, cloud-native search and analytics engine built on the Rust-based Tantivy library to index and query large, immutable datasets stored in object storage such as Amazon S3. It targets log search, data lake search, and OLAP use-cases, claiming sub-second queries (as low as ~140 ms) and cost savings of up to ten times versus Elasticsearch for its focused scenarios. The architecture separates compute from storage, making instances stateless and enabling fast scale-up and scale-down without moving data. Quickwit exposes a REST API and provides pre-built connectors for sources including Apache Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, and S3. The company uses a dual-license model (AGPL open source plus a commercial license that includes support and roadmap input) and has run a proof-of-concept with French unicorn Contentsquare. Founded in 2020, Quickwit recently closed a seed round and says it may consider offering a SaaS in the future, though a hosted service is not currently on the company’s agenda.
