Overview
QUMEA develops an intelligent, privacy‑respecting mobility monitoring system designed for proactive risk management in hospitals and long‑term care facilities. Its platform targets use cases such as fall detection, fall prevention, pressure ulcer prevention and medical decision support, delivering early and actionable insights to caregivers. The company reports an average 74% reduction in patient falls where its system is deployed and has a presence in more than 80 facilities, including partnerships with Hirslanden Group, Hannover Medical School and Balgrist University Hospital. QUMEA was founded in 2019 by Cyrill Gyger and David Meier and operates from offices in Solothurn, Stockholm and Mannheim with a team of over 30 professionals. The firm introduced a 'Software as a Medical Device' portfolio in 2023 and plans to broaden that offering. Its recent financing will support international market expansion and product development. QUMEA develops a patient-monitoring system combining a high-precision 3D radar sensor with intelligent software to anonymously detect and prevent falls while easing nursing workloads. The system fits into daily care routines, is already in use at local hospitals and nursing homes, and is being tested at institutions in Switzerland and abroad. Founded in 2019 and based in Solothurn, QUMEA moved from idea to series production within a year and now employs eight people. The company closed a CHF 1.8 million seed round and also secured research funding from the Swiss Innovation Agency (Innosuisse). Proceeds will be used to accelerate growth and expand research activities, including adding certified medical functions. QUMEA expects hundreds of its sensors to support nursing staff worldwide as early as 2022 and to provide additional medical data.
