Qurie

475 Brannan St, San Francisco, CA, 94107, USA

Overview

Qurie develops next‑generation electrocaloric refrigeration systems that use ceramics and polymers which change temperature under an electric field to provide solid‑state cooling. Its core technology is a globally patented active electrocaloric heat pipe (AEH) developed at Fraunhofer IPM and tested for more than a decade. Qurie says the theoretical efficiency of its systems exceeds 80%, compared with roughly 50% for traditional compressors, implying potential energy savings of around 40%. The company was founded in 2026 as a Fraunhofer IPM spin‑off and currently employs more than ten experts in Freiburg. Its initial commercial target is industrial enclosure cooling, with plans to expand into commercial refrigeration, medical technology, electronics and automotive applications. Development is being advanced through the Seed financing and a BMWE‑funded research programme supporting work until the end of 2026.
