Qwake Technologies, founded in 2015 and based in San Francisco, builds a hardware augmented-reality headset called C-THRU plus an IoT device, tablet app, and cloud platform to give firefighters a common operating picture. The C-THRU headset scans surroundings and uploads environmental data so responders and incident commanders can see through smoke and synchronize information across teams. The full solution includes a helmet-attached sensor module, a tablet-based application that processes and synthesizes sensor data, and cloud services that tie teams together. Qwake has design customers with the Menlo Park and Boston fire departments and has secured government work, including a $1.4M Department of Homeland Security contract and partnerships with the U.S. Air Force and RSA. The company previously raised angel funding and participated in Verizon’s 5G First Responder Lab. With the new financing it plans to advance its prototype, ready the product for scalable manufacturing, and pursue a wider release targeted for late 2021.
