Overview

Rally.org provides a platform for nonprofits and other organizations to create fundraising pages that accept eChecks and major credit cards. The company charges a 4.5% fee on every donation and does not levy additional monthly fees. Rally.org was born out of CEO Tom Serres's work on political campaigns and was originally called Piryx. The startup runs charity campaigns itself — for example a Glide Church drive with a $15,000 goal and 312 supporters that awards meetings with Silicon Valley angels as prizes. The platform hosts more than 21,000 rallies or causes and has over 3 million users, including donors and fan-fundraisers. Rally has also used its own platform to partially raise its Series A, demonstrating product-market fit in its core fundraising use case. Rally.org (formerly Piryx) offers a fundraising platform with integrated payment processing and polished desktop and mobile cause pages, allowing supporters to create blogs and share via social networks. The product supports both traditional nonprofits and less formal community causes, and emphasizes turning supporters into activists through social sharing. The site hosts each cause at Rally.org/CauseName to build a unified brand for fundraising and cause communities. Rally is currently in private beta and is redesigning the product beyond its Piryx proof of concept. The company has 15 employees and plans to grow to at least 40 by the end of the year, and it is moving its headquarters to San Francisco. The article does not disclose revenue or other financial operating metrics.
