Overview

RallyPoint operates a social network for current and former U.S. military service members, with divisions devoted to the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. The company launched in 2012 and has grown to 14 employees. It has over 550,000 members—about one fifth of active-duty military and one tenth of the total military community—up from roughly 100,000 a year after launch. RallyPoint recently raised an additional $5 million, bringing its total funding to $12 million according to a regulatory filing. Investors in the latest round included DBL Investors and Asset Management Ventures, both Bay Area venture capital firms that specialize in the tech sector. RallyPoint operates an enterprise collaboration and networking platform tailored exclusively to the military community and its supporters. The platform offers tools for brands and corporate hiring managers to find, recruit, and hire military talent. It has more than 125,000 members, ranging from general-level officers to junior enlisted. The company is led by CEO and co-founder Yinon Weiss. RallyPoint intends to use new funding to accelerate development of its platform solutions. As of the article, the company has raised a total of $6.6M. RallyPoint is a Boston-based, military-only professional network founded by Iraq War veterans Yinon Weiss and Aaron Kletzing. The company operates a free online community for active U.S. service members and is headquartered in the Harvard Innovation Lab in Boston. It intends to use the new capital to expand marketing and to partner with trusted employers, academic institutions, and brands to connect them with the right service members at the right time. In December 2012 RallyPoint raised $1M in angel funding. Backers included angel investors from Boston, Washington, DC, and London, with Jill Preotle representing the investors on the board. Earlier in 2012 the company received $550k in equity funding in April and a $100,000 award as runner-up in the 2012 MassChallenge Business Plan Competition (Harvard Business School). RallyPoint operates a private, members-only online network that the founders describe as a “LinkedIn for the military,” accessible to active-duty service members including National Guard, Active Reserves, ROTC and Service Academy students. The platform uses a military tree-style layout to show hierarchy, lets members search by rank and specialization, and enables leaders to recruit or connect with decision makers in future units. Members can privately share transition dates with employers and recruiters to plan post-military careers, and the site does not share data with the military or chain of command. The company plans to open the network in the near future to former service members, retirees, and Department of Defense employees. RallyPoint has assembled a roster of senior military advisors, including retired General and former Chief of Staff George W. Casey, Lieutenant General (ret.) Ben Freakley, and Brigadier General (ret.) Craig Nixon. Financially, the startup raised seed funding from angels and won non-dilutive prize funding from MassChallenge.
