Ramani

Isale House, Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Overview

Ramani provides inventory management systems, procurement and point-of-sale software to micro distribution centers (MDCs), deploying its app on a specialized POS device and printer and surfacing data on computers and WhatsApp. The startup offers these tools for free and plans to monetize primarily through bespoke financial services tailored to the supply chain. Ramani recently received a lending license from the Bank of Tanzania and has launched a 30-day inventory financing product, with plans for a 14-day revolving line of credit allowing distributors to borrow up to $500 interest free. The company says value of goods sold through its platform hit $72 million last year and reported 68% month-over-month GMV growth during that period; this year GMV growth is 36% month-over-month. Ramani currently has 100 active MDCs on its platform and plans to double down in Tanzania while expanding services to Kenya and Uganda. Its stated vision is to create a cloud network of micro distribution centers across Africa and capture a $1 billion lending revenue opportunity in the region.
