Rapportive builds a browser plugin that displays contextually relevant information about your contacts in Gmail’s sidebar, replacing ads. The plugin shows profile photos, occupations, and links to contacts' social-network profiles. The company says it will use the funding to hire, improve its existing product, and expand to other email platforms. Rapportive was part of the latest Y Combinator batch; CEO Rahul Vohra says YC’s Paul Graham described the round as “stunning.” Vohra framed the raise as aligned with his prediction that future funding will be mass-syndicated with no fixed amounts, closing, or lead. Financially, Rapportive raised over $1 million in a seed round.
