Overview
Raptr operates an optimization platform for PC gamers and has launched Plays.tv, a client for capturing and sharing gameplay. The company raised $14M in financing to support its growth. Backers included Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and existing investors Accel Partners, DAG Ventures and Tenaya Capital. Raptr intends to use the funds to expand Plays.tv and further grow operations. Plays.tv automatically records gameplay using hardware-accelerated video encoding to minimize performance impact and can optionally capture the user’s webcam in picture-in-picture. The client can also import videos recorded with other software (OBS, Raptr, Nvidia Shadowplay) for editing and sharing to social networks like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Raptr is a social networking platform for gamers whose mission is to make it easy to play games with friends. The product lets users track games, share achievements, stats, rankings and character information with friends and automatically broadcast gaming activity to Raptr and external social sites like Facebook and Twitter. The network supports games on PC, Xbox, and PS3 and shows when friends are playing across consoles, enabling chat and in-game web browsing. Raptr reported rapid user growth, expanding from north of one million members last July to over six million members in less than a year. Financially, Raptr raised $15 million in new funding in the reported round led by DAG Ventures with Tenaya Capital and Accel Partners participating. The round brought the company’s total funding to $27 million.
