Overview
Rarimo is a zero-knowledge (ZK) identity protocol that lets users self-issue passport-based identities and privately store them on their mobile devices. Users generate ZK proofs locally to prove facts about themselves without revealing full identities, and no third parties are involved. Rarimo's passport ZKPs have been used for anonymous voting in Russia, Iran, and Georgia and for airdrops, and the system reportedly survived Kremlin attacks during the Russian elections. The community is expanding the infrastructure to support private social graphs and experimentation with ZK reputation. Rarimo plans to launch as a ZK roll-up on Ethereum in Q1 2025, funded by its recently closed Vision Round. The project emphasizes decentralization, privacy, and user control as core principles of its identity stack.
