Overview
Rebellion Photonics is a Houston-based provider of gas leak detection technology for oil rigs and refineries. It commercializes a hyperspectral imaging technology called Gas Cloud Imaging (GCI) that can identify and quantify dangerous gas leaks within the digital image in true real-time (30Hz) video. The GCI cameras are intended to enhance safety and operations and lower the risk of explosions. The company was founded in 2009 by CEO Allison Lami Sawyer and CTO Robert Kester and was spun out of Rice University in 2010. Rebellion closed a $10.4M Series A and said it will use the funds to accelerate market expansion of its Gas Cloud Imaging cameras. Investors in the round included Tinicum L.P. and other private investment partnerships advised by Tinicum Incorporated.
