Overview

Reboxed operates a B2B2C and B2B recommerce platform that offers premium refurbished and pre-owned devices including phones, laptops, tablets and smart watches through a “like new” experience focused on quality and a circular approach. The company embeds branded solutions with used partners to distribute devices to their customers or employees, enabling partners to instantly launch a branded sustainable technology category. Reboxed has served telecom clients such as Three Mobile, which launched a refurbished offering to SMARTY customers without having to invest in infrastructure. The startup was founded in 2020 by Phil Kemish and Matt Thorne and is based in London, UK. Reboxed raised £1.6M in Seed funding and intends to use the proceeds to drive growth and further develop its retail partner programs and its Reboxed for business service. Historic backers include Ali-A (a YouTuber with over 20 million subscribers), ex-founders of Mazuma and Envirophone, Martin McCourt, Nick Beighton and the Ministry Of Sound group. Reboxed operates a re-commerce platform that buys back mobile phones, refurbishes them and resells them with a 15-month warranty. The company launched its platform in September and bills itself as a sustainable alternative in the refurbished electronics market. Reboxed has raised £500,000 in pre-seed funding this year, including a recent £350,000 tranche from angel investors. New investor Charlo Carabott has joined the round and the company’s board; Carabott previously co-founded and ran Mazuma until its 2018 acquisition by EcoRenew. Reboxed says it will plant ten trees for every phone bought or sold and will pay to offset each phone’s lifetime CO2 emissions. The company has set a goal to “rehome” 100 million mobile devices by 2030 and faces established competitors such as BackMarket and Swappie.
