Overview
Recommind is a San Francisco–based provider of unstructured data management, analysis and governance technology. It developed the CORE platform, which uses machine learning and advanced analytics to identify patterns and concepts in unstructured, human-generated information. Earlier this year the company launched an Information Governance Suite for organizing and managing enterprise information and Hypergraph, a visualization application for discovering and analyzing patterns and relationships. Recommind serves Fortune 500 enterprises, government agencies and international law firms, with customers including AstraZeneca, BMW, Cisco, Clifford Chance, Marathon Oil, Morgan Lewis, the U.S. Department of Energy, White & Case and WilmerHale. The company reported $70.5M in revenue in 2012 and has offices in New York, Boston, London, Sydney and Bonn. It intends to use the new funding to grow adoption of its platform and expand into new markets. Recommind sells Axcelerate, an “eDiscovery 2.0” product that automates initial sorting of electronic documents and judges relevance to speed and reduce the cost of eDiscovery. The company also offers enterprise search. It counts law firms such as Cooley Godward Kronish and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati among its customers. Recommind is already profitable and has been growing at about 100% per year. Management reports increased demand from law firms amid financial-sector collapses and expected litigation. The company plans to use new funding to expand its sales team and acquire additional technology.
