Overview
Red Points provides an automated platform that detects and helps remove counterfeit goods, piracy and digital impersonators, positioning itself in the revenue recovery and anti-fraud space. Its tools enable brands to spot counterfeit listings and open disputes to protect intellectual property and recover lost revenue. The company serves customers across industries, with domestic customer Real Madrid named as a user of its technology. Red Points plans to use new funding to double down on go-to-market efforts and to tighten product features to combat emerging forms of online brand abuse. The startup has highlighted the scale of the problem with OECD figures on global counterfeiting and frames its product as a scalable, automated response for fraud teams. Red Points is a Barcelona-based SaaS brand-protection platform that leverages AI to scan e-commerce platforms, social networks and web properties to identify lookalike products and brand abuse. It detects counterfeiting, piracy, identity theft and fraudulent online distribution for clients across electronics, fashion, sport, automotive and entertainment. More than 800 businesses use the platform and the company employs approximately 250 people, with offices in Barcelona, New York, Salt Lake City and Beijing. The firm has experienced double-digit growth driven by the rise of e-commerce and cybercrime during the pandemic. Red Points has secured up to €15 million in debt financing from the European Investment Bank to finance further product R&D. Management says the EIB support will accelerate innovation and extend its growth strategy. Red Points offers a SaaS solution for detecting and enforcing online intellectual-property infringements, including online counterfeiting, piracy and distribution fraud. Led by CEO Laura Urquizu and based in Barcelona, the company has opened U.S. headquarters in New York. Its proprietary software currently removes more than 100,000 incidents of illegal products and content from the web monthly across over 100 online marketplaces and social networks. The company’s solutions are used by more than 550 brands worldwide, including Bang & Olufsen, MVMT and DOPE. Red Points said it will use new funding to further expand its technology and global presence to empower brands to protect their assets online. The company reported total capital raised of $64M following the new round. Red Points offers a cloud-based SaaS platform that scans marketplaces, social apps and websites to detect IP infringements and automate takedowns. The product uses deep-learning, image recognition and advanced keyword monitoring, and also applies learning from enforcement history to suggest new detection rules. The company reports it is removing more than 200,000 incidents of illegal products and content every month with an average removal rate of 96% and a 4.5-hour average from detection to takedown. Red Points says anti-counterfeiting and brand protection represent about 75% of its revenue, while anti-piracy remains a component of the business. Customers have grown to more than 300 (up from ~75 at its Series A), and 2017 revenue growth was 350%. The company has about 75 employees and plans to add 65 in 2018, including hiring US sales staff and expanding its technology team. It also plans to open a New York office in February 2018 as the US already accounts for around a third of its customer base. Red Points offers a SaaS solution for copyright infringement detection and removal. Its proprietary technology continuously crawls the web for infringement of online assets across download sites, P2P networks, forums, social networks, cyberlockers, apps and e-commerce sites. The platform documents and monitors each infringement and pursues extrajudicial actions to mitigate infringements, including notification of infringement, communication with relevant ISPs and de-indexing of web pages. Customers include major news organizations, international audio-visual groups, renowned brands, sports entities, top-level athletes, film stars and famous music artists. The company raised €2m from early stage venture firm Mangrove Capital Partners and intends to use the funds to expand its offering to companies of all sizes. It plans to support growth into new markets, including North America.
