Redbeacon lets users search, browse and book local service providers—ranging from plumbers to lawyers—directly on its website. Service providers pay a fee for new paying customers or, in some categories like lawyers, for a lead. The company plans to launch a widget that allows third-party websites to embed core Redbeacon features and will share revenue generated from those customers. Redbeacon is live in the Bay Area and will soon expand to new markets, according to CEO Ethan Anderson. To date the company funded development and operations with about $200,000—$150,000 from the founders and $50,000 from winning TechCrunch50. The company announced a $7.4 million financing led by Mayfield Fund and Venrock, with incoming board members from both firms.
