Redpin Therapeutics

430 E. 29th Street, 14th Floor, New York, 10029, United States

Overview

Redpin Therapeutics is a privately held, preclinical gene therapy company based in New York City developing an ion channel–based chemogenetics platform to modulate dysfunctional neurons. Its proprietary chimeric ligand-gated ion channels are designed to be activated only in the presence of the FDA‑approved small molecule varenicline (CHANTIX®), enabling selective activation or silencing of disease-causing neurons. The company holds a worldwide exclusive license from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute for therapeutic use of the technology and has validation from two publications in Science. Founders include Dr. Scott Sternson and Professor Jeffrey M. Friedman; product development is led by CEO Elma Hawkins and David Bleakman. Redpin is applying its platform to disorders associated with neural circuit dysfunction, including epilepsy, neuropathic pain and Parkinson’s disease, with the goal of delivering highly targeted treatments that avoid off‑target side effects. The company intends to use new funding to advance development of its ultra‑potent ion channel chemogenetics platform.
