Founded in 2024 by Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, Reflection develops AI models whose weights are opened to researchers and developers while keeping training data and the full training process proprietary. The company aims to create reusable open models that businesses, labs, and governments can adapt, positioning itself as a Western alternative to Chinese open AI players. Reflection has raised over $2 billion to date, including a $1 billion round led by NVIDIA that featured investments from 1789 Capital and DST Global. Revenue plans include charging large enterprises building products on top of its models and governments developing sovereign AI systems. Reflection is a founding member of NVIDIA’s Nemotron Coalition alongside firms such as Mistral AI and Perplexity, collaborating on open frontier models. The firm’s valuation reportedly jumped from $545 million last year to talks of a $25 billion pre-money valuation in the current raise.
