Refocus Group develops the VisAbility Micro-Insert System, an investigational scleral implant intended to restore near vision without compromising distance vision or altering the cornea or natural lens. The VisAbility Procedure inserts four micro-thin implants just below the scleral surface as an outpatient procedure with topical anesthesia. Refocus completed enrollment in a Phase 3, prospective multicenter trial of 360 subjects aged 45–60 across 13 U.S. clinical sites; the FDA granted a 12-month follow-up for approval rather than the usual 24 months. Given the trial history and enrollment completion, the company expects to submit for FDA premarket approval in 2017 and prepare for commercialization. Refocus recently secured $15 million in new financing to support trial completion and the premarket approval process. Don Phillips of WP Global Partners will join the Refocus board to assist in guiding the company. The company is headquartered in Dallas.
