Refresh is a mobile app that scans users’ calendars and connected social and email accounts to create personalized dossiers for people they’re about to meet. Its real-time insight engine pulls data from hundreds of sources to surface relevant background, mutual connections, past conversation history, photos and suggested topics. Users connect accounts such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Gmail, Google apps, AngelList, Evernote, Foursquare, Yahoo and iCloud so Refresh can compile context tailored to the viewer. The company emphasizes privacy controls and uses individual user tokens to only collect information a user could already view. Refresh was founded by Bhavin Shah and Paul Tyma and currently has seven employees with experience from Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft. The company raised $10M to expand its team—particularly engineering—and to improve its insight engine.
