Release by Scatec, established by Scatec ASA in 2019, offers a flexible and mobile leasing solution of pre-assembled and containerised solar PV and battery equipment for mining and utilities. Its product is delivered as modular, movable trackers and storage units pre-funded and deployed under adaptable leasing agreements of five to fifteen years. The mobility of the equipment enables short-term, cost-effective contracts and allows Release to assess useful lifespan for redeployment. Release has projects in operation and under construction in Cameroon, South Africa, Mexico and South Sudan totalling 47 MW of solar PV and 20 MWh of battery storage, plus additional contracts for 35 MW and 20 MWh in Chad, and a maturing advanced pipeline. The company is focused on rapid deployment to address local grid shortfalls across the region and is seeing good traction with African utilities. Financially, Release will be accounted for as a joint venture in Scatec’s group accounts and the transaction generated an accounting gain of approximately USD 40m in Scatec’s consolidated financials at closing.
