Overview
Remotion is building a desktop video collaboration tool that keeps a team’s profile pictures persistently visible on a Mac taskbar, allowing users to initiate informal, ad-hoc video chats with a single click. Rather than replicating lengthy scheduled meetings, the product is designed to make video feel as effortless as tapping a teammate on the shoulder, replacing some back-and-forth email or Slack messages. Users can mark custom availability statuses, rely on Google Calendar integrations to signal busyness and let the profile hub either float above other windows or recede behind them. The platform currently supports macOS in public beta, with waitlists open for Windows and Linux versions, highlighting an intent to broaden OS coverage. Founded by Alexander Embiricos (Brooklyn) and Charley Ho (Chicago), the fully remote team believes post-pandemic hybrid work will drive demand for lightweight synchronous tools. To date, Remotion has secured $13 million in venture funding, providing resources to refine the product and scale beyond its early beta phase. No revenue or user metrics have been disclosed.
