Renaissance Learning offers desktop- and web-based assessment and learning-analytics tools aimed at K-12 educators and students. Founded in 1984 and based in Wisconsin, it operates the Renaissance Place platform to provide data-driven guidance to teachers. The company hosts data for more than 38,000 schools, holds reading records for almost 11 million U.S. students, and reports 18 million students using its platform. Last year it powered over 45 million STAR computer-adaptive assessments. Renaissance says it saw a 20% increase in top-line growth in 2013 and double-digit growth the year before. Management intends to use new funds to advance products in its pipeline and to pursue further acquisitions after buying Subtext last year, and to explore collaboration opportunities with Google.
