Rest Devices builds Mimo, a cotton onesie embedded with machine-washable sensors that monitor a baby’s breathing, temperature and movements and streams sensor data over home Wi‑Fi to a parent’s smartphone. The system includes a base station called the “lillypad” that picks up room audio like a traditional baby monitor, and an app that tracks data over time and can be programmed to send alerts for events such as stopped breathing or high temperature. The company planned a January launch of the $199 device with a “prominent retailer.” A recent SEC filing shows Rest Devices closed a $1.2 million round of financing to support that launch. The startup was founded by a group of former MIT students as Nyx Devices in 2011 and is described as a Boston-area company. The product emphasizes washable sensors and smartphone integration and is presented as a tool to help parents rather than replace parenting. Nyx Devices has developed the Somnus Sleep Shirt, a form-fitting, sensor-embedded garment that provides at-home sleep diagnostics. Its patent-pending technology was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The company says the shirt offers greater comfort than other at-home sleep devices and allows consumers to access sleep health data and online tools each morning. Nyx is based in the Boston Innovation District. The company announced in an SEC filing that it secured $500,000 in financing via equity and securities.
