Restalo is a Barcelona-based online restaurant reservation service, founded in 2009, that provides real-time online bookings for diners and a cloud-based reservation and guest management system for restaurants. The company claims about 1 million active users, 8,000 restaurants on its platform, and 200 partner sites including TimeOut and TripAdvisor. Restalo positions itself as the leader in Spain and Italy where OpenTable has not yet operated. The startup plans to use new capital to consolidate its position in Southern Europe and to expand into new markets. It also intends to push its mobile applications, expand to Australia by year’s end, and double its team to over 200 employees within the next 12 months. Restalo.es provides real-time online restaurant reservations with immediate confirmation and discounts of up to 70%, available via browser and dedicated iPhone/iPad apps. The company was funded in 2008 and says the new capital will fuel growth domestically and internationally. It operates across Spain and also has a presence in Paris, London and Rome. Restalo reports 500,000 bookings worth €14 million for restaurateurs and says it has saved over €6 million for users. The service attracts about 3 million page views per month and has over 300,000 members, more than 5,000 restaurants registered and presence in 31 Spanish provinces. Management hopes to process one million reservations by the end of 2011.
