RethinkDB provides an open-source, distributed database designed to store JSON documents and scale to multiple machines. The company is based in Mountain View, California. It was co-founded by Michael Glukhovsky and Slava Akhmechet. RethinkDB raised $8M in a Series A financing to support its growth. The company intends to use the funds for product development and to grow its community. In conjunction with the funding, Peter Bell from Highland Capital Partners joined the company’s board. RethinkDB is developing a MySQL storage engine built from the ground up to take advantage of solid-state drives.
