Revo Round
Shanghai, China
Overview
Revo-Round is creating a "roundtop" personal computer featuring a circular screen and keyboard, which the company says will preserve characteristic Asian facial features. The product is presented as the result of research attributed to Professor Zhou Hongan and studies of roughly 150,000 Chinese babies over the past two decades, and the company claims development involvement from Jiaotong University. Revo-Round and an affiliated manufacturer argue that extensive computer-screen use has driven subtle facial changes and that a round display could counteract that trend. The manufacturer has said the roundtop could be deployed anywhere monitors are used, including street billboards. Company correspondence, including a note from someone identifying as Tang Feng, Project Engineer, references roughly €50 million of investment from a Holland-side and a US team. TechCrunch's coverage is openly skeptical, calling the product baffling and suggesting the scientific rationale may be an April Fool's–style misunderstanding.
