Revoy
San Francisco, California, United States, North America
Overview
Revoy develops a removable electric propulsion unit that is installed between a tractor and trailer to give existing diesel trucks electric-assist capability. The company says a unit can propel a 36.3-ton truck for more than 200 miles (322 km) on a full charge and can cut carbon emissions by up to 85%. Revoy operates under a model where it retains ownership of the motorized trailers while fleet customers keep their existing diesel tractors. The startup plans to ultimately build a network of swap stations to exchange depleted units for fully charged ones. Revoy intends to begin its first commercial operations late this year on a 200-mile route near Portland, Oregon, deploying four trailers assembled from Chinese components. The company is using its recent $27 million financing (bringing total capital raised to $41 million) to fund that launch and to develop a second-generation trailer with a smaller, lower-cost battery while maintaining the same claimed range.
