Rex is a photo-based recommendations app that uses AI and computer vision to scan a user’s camera roll and identify photos of restaurants, museums, bars, hotels, and trailheads. The app converts identified locations into "rex" playlists that users can organize by city, cuisine, or theme and share with friends. Playlists serve as personal records of places users have visited and want to return to, and users can build future lists from friends' recommendations. An interactive map view lets users see which friends or friends-of-friends have been to a particular location and filter by individual. People can follow friends and see new places in a feed as they discover them. Rex has just launched out of beta and plans to use new funding to expand its app development.
