RightClinic operates an online marketplace for consumers to find, compare and book consultations for laser eye surgery and a range of cosmetic treatments. The site displays independent reviews and clearer pricing and earns revenue by taking a commission on bookings it sends to clinics. Last year the platform sent partner clinics over £1.2 million of new business, and the company says it has only just scratched the surface of a £10 billion UK market. The startup was founded in 2008 by Ganesh Rao, a qualified doctor who left clinical practice to build the service, and graduated from the Ignite accelerator last year. Rao initially self-funded the venture with £50,000 won in a professional poker competition. The company was formerly known as TreatmentSaver.
