Riide is a D.C.-born electric bike company led by Amber Wason and Jeff Stefanis. The company builds electric bikes and is described as a hardware startup that is post-production. Riide joined the 500 Startups accelerator in San Francisco and opened a modest office on the top floor of a Financial District building. As part of the program it traded 5% equity for $125,000 plus four months of mentorship and access to a global network. The founders said many of their sales were coming from San Francisco, so they plan to maintain roots in D.C. while keeping a West Coast presence. Riide is focused on fundraising, scaling and distribution as its next priorities and selected 500 Startups because the program matched those needs. The company is part of a cohort that includes several other D.C. startups such as WorkAmerica, Rize and Mars Reel Media.
