River Search
New York, NY, United States
Overview
River is a content-aggregation app that pulls stories and media from publishers, Twitter, and other social platforms and organizes them by topic. The app clips stories to headlines while allowing users to click through to full articles, and it prioritizes video content to give more context without leaving the app. River personalizes content without accounts, profiles, social graphs, or past browsing history, relying instead on the behavior of an individual device and content-level signals. Onboarding is simple—users tick category boxes to start—and the team emphasizes analyzing content metadata (publisher, author type, placement, connections, and topics). The company also built Overflow, a separate app that lets users post selfie videos alongside news content and distribute them to other social networks. River has a 12-person team (about one-third described as “diverse”) and says it is not currently planning any specific revenue models.
