Overview
Enschede-based Clear Flight Solutions develops and operates the Robird™, a robotic bird-of-prey platform used to deter birds across airports, oil & gas sites, dredging projects and agricultural locations. The company sells technology and services that integrate drone flights into daily operations for bird control, with demonstrated deployments at major international airports. Clear Flight Solutions plans to use fresh capital to expand in North America and to accelerate development of the Robird 3.0, a fully autonomous, smarter and more efficient version of its robotic falcon. Management says revenue has rapidly grown and has well surpassed the €1 million threshold this year. Operational traction includes over 500 airside flights in three months at Edmonton International Airport and another European airport, and more than 15,000 birds dispersed from active runways using Robirds and complementary solutions. The company has also run extensive bird control operations in the Oil Sands region of Canada and on a major offshore project for dredging firm Van Oord. Clear Flight Solutions is a robotics drone spin-off from the University of Twente in the Netherlands that builds lifelike robotic birds called "robirds." The robirds mimic the flight of a peregrine falcon so convincingly that nuisance birds perceive them as natural predators. That natural approach exploits birds' fear instincts to short-circuit learning and prevent habituation. Led by CEO Nico Nijenhuis, the company says the solution aims to avoid damage and loss of life caused by birds at airports and to reduce billions of dollars of bird-related damage in agriculture, waste management, oil and gas sites, and harbors. Clear Flight Solutions raised €1.6m in funding and intends to use the funds to conduct a number of trials.
