Overview
Rocksbox is a San Francisco-based membership shopping service that sends curated sets of designer jewelry to members. Led by founder Meaghan Rose, customers complete a style survey and add items to a Wish List; each set is then hand-selected based on their style and requests. Every set contains three pieces of designer jewelry, with an average value of $200 per set, and members can wear, return, or purchase the items. The company raised $8.7m in a Series A funding round. That financing brought Rocksbox’s total funding to over $10m to date. Rocksbox intends to use the funds to expand operations and is hiring. RocksBox operates a subscription jewelry box service (memberships $15–$19/month) that ships curated sets of three to four pieces which customers can wear, return, or purchase. Founder Meaghan Rose built the early product as a WordPress site and launched a beta during Thanksgiving 2012. The company sources pieces wholesale from designers and personalizes future boxes using customer feedback and purchasing data. Members can keep favorites by buying them, or rotate jewelry as often as desired, blending subscription and e-commerce. RocksBox reported being cash-flow positive in December and says its customer base is growing 30–40% month-over-month, expanding over 20x in the past year. The company has launched its own designer collection and plans to offer a higher-end box and expand the brand into other accessories.
