Rodatherm

50 West Broadway, Suite 300, Salt Lake City, UT, 84101, United States

Overview

Rodatherm Energy is tackling enhanced geothermal power with a closed-loop system that circulates refrigerant through steel pipes instead of water, a design it says boosts heat-transfer efficiency by 50% and cuts water use. The sealed loop also eliminates the need for filters that open-loop water systems require to deal with grit and debris. Fresh from emerging out of stealth, the company has secured $38 million in Series A funding to drill and commission a 1.8-megawatt pilot plant in Utah, which it plans to complete by the end of 2026. Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems has agreed to purchase electricity from that pilot project. If the demonstration proves cost-competitive, Rodatherm intends to scale to larger commercial installations and compete with peers such as Fervo Energy, Sage Geosystems, XGS Energy and Quaise. The Series A is the first publicly disclosed capital for the company and will cover drilling, loop installation and system testing as it works to validate its economic model.
