Rolith develops advanced nanostructured coatings and devices targeted at renewable energy, green building, and consumer electronics. Its coatings are enabled by a proprietary nanolithography system that the company says offers superior throughput, lower cost and higher quality compared with existing methods. Rolith plans to scale its nanostructuring technology to larger substrate areas to meet industrial-scale demand and demonstrate feasibility of initial coatings. The company will use the $5 million Series A to step up business development, expand the engineering team, and further research and development. The financing comes as the company seeks to commercialize large-area, cost-effective nanocoatings for a variety of industrial and consumer applications. Rolith was formed in 2008 and is based in Pleasanton, Calif.; founders include Dr. Boris Kobrin, Prof. Mark Brongersma and Julian Zegelman.
