Roots is an iOS app that tracks “digital dopamine” to measure the quality of screen time rather than just duration. It integrates with Apple’s Screen Time API and provides tools such as app limits, downtime scheduling and a non-overridable “Monk Mode” to enforce hard breaks. The product also offers a personalized balance score, customizable stop-scrolling reminders, streaks and rewards, and may add social features like a leaderboard over time. The app uses a freemium model with in-app subscriptions priced at $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year; premium features include Monk Mode and a digital dopamine report. In beta testing, Roots reportedly helped the average user reduce screen time by two hours per day. The founding team is led by CEO and co-founder Clint Jarvis, alongside Head of Design Pontus Wellgraf, Head of User Experience Vikram Chauhan and Head of Development Marcin Czech.
