Ropeo
Calle 90 Number 11-44 of 403, Bogota, Distrito Especial, Colombia
Overview
Ropeo sends curated clothing boxes to users based on preferences collected at signup, using a machine-learning algorithm to support stylists who pick items for weekly delivery and pickup. Users try items at home over the weekend and Ropeo collects and charges for what they keep; the service is opt-in each month and costs $7/month. The company accepts cash payments, noting that roughly two-thirds of the Latin American community prefer cash over credit cards. Ropeo sources inventory from boutiques and fast-fashion brands, taking commissions from boutiques, and relies on third-party delivery today while considering vertical integration as it scales. Founders Alejandro Casas, Santiago Gomez, and Luis Huertas say inventory and operations are the main challenges, and they use ML to improve matching and reduce risk. Ropeo is operational in the seven largest Colombian cities (Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Bucaramanga) and plans to expand across Latin America; it reports about 50% conversion on first boxes and more than 90% weekly user growth since joining Y Combinator in January.
